Unix systems Engineer

Position Description:

The members of the FS engineering team are involved in a number of different projects:

- Prioritizing and incorporating the work of our AFS vendors to keep AFS scaling to our environment. This involves doing code reviews, building new servers and clients, deploying them in Test and QA environments, and packaging them for deployment by our operations team.

- Rearchitecting parts of our AFS environment to be more resilient and effiicient. For example, the team just reimplemented the backup/restore system for AFS on top of NetBackup, and is involved in maintaining audits of AFS usage to enable purging of unused volumes.

- Working with the OpenAFS community.

- Testing Solaris X86 with ZFS as a more effiencient AFS server platform.

- Evaluating other Network File Systems for our environment. This includes the use of NFSv4, pNFS, CIFS/NFS support for both Windows and *nix clients.

- Working with customers such as the team working on "The Train", to craft a custom solution which meets their performance and functional requirements for software distribution

Skills Required:

* Good 'C' programming (for debugging AFS code)

* Programming skills, preferably perl

* Good problem-solving skills

* Knowledge of file-systems

* Good in-depth knowledge of Unix (Solaris / Linux)
